On May, 2025, the Czech Republic's energy landscape is set for a transformation as ČEZ advances plans for small modular nuclear reactors, initiating environmental impact assessments for a new facility in Tušimice, to replace the electricity production of the Tusimice II lignite power plant. The project will include three 470 MW reactors, developed in partnership with Rolls-Royce SMR, with investments totaling billions of Czech crowns. Unlike traditional plants, these reactors will be factory-manufactured for mass production and are designed to last at least 60 years, offering a cost-effective alternative.

Construction is expected to begin in 2034, with operations starting in 2038, and the first reactor will be installed at the Temelín nuclear power plant even sooner. the Environment Ministry has begun a fact-finding procedure for public input on the plan, and aims to employ around 1,200 workers.
