Hello ,
On January 2025, PGE's potential acquisition of ZE PAK's 50% stake in their nuclear unit could provide two locations for 2nd nuclear power plant in Poland: Konin and Belchatow. Government plenipotentiary stated that if Konin is selected, the project would receive government approval. Initially, the joint venture established on April 2023 aims to build a nuclear plant in Pątnów with two APR1400 reactors from Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, with PGE and ZE PAK each holding 50%. This project seeks to enhance Poland's energy security through nuclear power and renewable sources, with the first unit expected to launch by the mid-2030s.
Nuclear power is resurging in Europe as countries like Belgium, Italy, Poland, and Sweden reassess their energy strategies amid rising prices and climate goals. Poland aims to reduce coal reliance by partnering with Westinghouse for a nuclear plant by 2033 and exploring small modular reactors, but challenges like financing, supply chain, radioactive waste management remain.
Given the importance of local involvement for financing support from the European Commission, which Poland is seeking, what measures has Poland implemented to develop its supply chain and supplier capabilities despite lacking previous nuclear energy resources? Additionally, how can Poland effectively balance localization with the need for international suppliers in its equipment procurement plans for nuclear power plants?
| We are very honored to announce that Piotr Wiśniewski, Head of QA/QC & Integrated Management System (APR1400), PGE PAK Energia Jądrowa S.A., Poland has confirmed to join the Europe Nuclear Energy & SMR Conference (ENES 2025, October 14-15, Prague, Czech Republic), as Keynote Speaker, he will make the Keynote Speech about “Evaluating Poland's Nuclear Supply Chain and Investment, Local Participation and Future Planning”. |
