Hello ,
The Czech Republic is advancing its contract with KHNP for the Dukovany 5 NPP, but the European Commission (EC), prompted by concerns over potential foreign subsidies distorting competition, has urged the Czech Republic to delay signing a contract with South Korea’s KHNP for the Dukovany 5&6 nuclear project, because a new EU regulation on foreign subsidies, which enables investigations into the impact of state aid from non-EU countries on the European market.
Czech's Industry Minister said“it is no coincidence”, that the letter was from a French EC official. The move follows legal challenges from France’s EDF, which alleges an unfair tender process, and has sparked political tensions.
Would the Dukovany 5 project delayed? It is critical for the country’s 2035 energy transition goals. Or if KHNP finally wins, will it signal a shift toward non-European reactor dominance, challenging the EU’s strategic autonomy in nuclear tech?
